Becoming a Gestalt Therapist: Reflections on My 4-Year Clinical Fellowship
A proud moment — holding my certificate and rose at the graduation ceremony for the Gestalt Associates for Psychotherapy 4-year clinical fellowship. Grateful for the journey, the growth, and the community!
I’m happy to share that I’ve completed a 4-year clinical fellowship at Gestalt Associates for Psychotherapy and am now a certified Gestalt therapist!
As part of the program, I engaged in a rich blend of lectures, demonstrations, practicum work, and hands-on clinical experience through a four-year internship.
This intensive experience has deepened my work in both relational and somatic therapy. It also expanded my understanding and integration of Gestalt theory and psychoanalytic therapy, enriching the way I approach the therapeutic process. I had the privilege of learning from wise and compassionate supervisors and was given invaluable opportunities for professional development, personal growth, and a strong sense of community. The training also allowed me to engage in deep reflection on both my personal and professional work — a process that continues to shape how I show up as a therapist.
This training didn’t just give me tools — it reshaped how I understand therapeutic presence and change. One of the things I value most about Gestalt therapy is how grounded I am invited to be in the present moment. I don’t rely on pre-planned techniques — instead, I attune to what’s unfolding between me and the client in real time. This allows our work to emerge organically from our connection. I’ve found that when I stay present and open, it creates space for the client to discover new awareness and possibilities, not through fixing, but through a process of shared discovery and co-creation.
I’m deeply grateful to my supervisors, colleagues, and the community of fellow therapists who taught me so much and supported my transformation — not only as a therapist, but as a person.
Me outside the office — glowing with joy (and maybe a little sunshine). Gestalt principles don’t stop at the door.
I’m grateful to bring this experience into my practice, supporting clients through pregnancy, early parenthood, identity shifts, anxiety, and the transitions of college life.
I offer therapy in English and Russian, both in-person in Chelsea, NYC, and virtually across NY, NJ, CT, and PA.
